What's dry ice?

Dry ice is a type of ice whose temperature is up to -80 degrees. It is made up of only solid carbon dioxide. Understand this in such a way that when you put normal ice in your mouth, it melts and becomes water, but when it melts, it spreads directly into carbon dioxide gas. Dry ice is often used to store groceries and medical things due to its exceptionally low temperature. It is also used in photography and theatre.

What is Gurgaon Dry Ice Incident?

A similar case has come to light in a restaurant in Gurgaon in which 5 people started bleeding from the mouth after eating dry ice instead of mouth freshener. Police believe that a waiter had mistakenly served them dry ice instead of mouth freshener. Upon eating it, he experienced a burning sensation in his mouth, followed by bleeding from the mouth. Some have started vomiting and the condition has become serious. After this, these people reached the hospital where they came to know that they had eaten dry ice instead of mouth freshener, which led to this situation. So, let's know what it is and the harm of eating it…

Why is dry ice dangerous for health?

According to the doctor, dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide which is generally used as a cooling agent. If you have kept dry ice in a place where there is no ventilation, then the concentration of carbon dioxide can increase so much that you can have problems like suffocation, headache, and difficulty in breathing, lips or nails turning blue. Prolonged use of dry ice also causes frostbite and skin damage. Therefore, it should be used with caution and in a well-ventilated environment.

In this way, dry ice can be a very serious threat to the body, which will melt with the heat of the mouth and immediately spread throughout the mouth. As this ice melts, it turns into carbon dioxide gas and damages nearby tissues and cells. This can cause a person to faint and, in some cases, even die. Avoid eating food and keep dry ice away from your skin. Touch it at any time by wearing cloth or leather gloves and using towels, etc. Otherwise, it can cause skin irritation.

Not only this, exposure to carbon dioxide can cause headache, dizziness, difficulty in breathing, tremors, confusion and ringing in the ears. Overdose can lead to coma and death.
