Bhavesh Agarwal

Ola's CEO, Bhavish Aggarawal has challenged the nation's youth to work at-least 140 hours a week.

Bhavesh Agarwal

'Not 70, but 140 hours of work', after Narayana Murthy now we have OLA CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal starting again a new debate on the working hours for employees.

He in support of NR Narayana Murthy's statement, marked his interest with this tweet:

“The nation's top IT business, Infosys, was founded by NR Narayana Murthy, who once ordered his employees to put in 12 hours a day of labour”.

Narayana Murthy at that time has stated that our country's youth should give in labour work for around 12 hours every day in order for the country to advance quickly. Perhaps, recently this remark was backed up by Bhavish Aggarawal, the CEO of Ola with a statement of youth must give in 140 hours of mandatory work per week.

Bhavish Aggarwal has now tweeted in favour of NR Narayana Murthy on this issue. He stated that he absolutely agrees with Narayan Murthy and he sent a humorous tweet on this topic on his twitter handle.

Bhavish wrote in his tweet that we should spend hours in work. One should work not just 70 hours, but more than 140 hours. He further wrote in this tweet, "Only fun, no weekend".

Bhavish had earlier made another tweet too. Before this, the initial tweet was made by Bhavish, in which he had shared his views saying that this is not the time to work less and have fun. Rather, in this time we should make money in just one generation. That means youth should work for 12 hours.

Apart from this, Bhavish Aggarwal also told that the generation of our grandparents had seen the fight for India's independence and our parents' generation has fought for the basic necessities of life.

During a recent episode of 3one4 Capital's podcast 'The Record', Narayana Murthy expressed concern that India's youth have adopted the "not so desirable desires of the best" without contributing to the nation.

He claimed that "India's work productivity will be among the lowest in the world".

Murthy further stressed, "Our youth should say, this is my country. I want to work 70 hours a week."

Bhavish Aggarwal echoed Murthy's words, saying, "This is the time for us to do something different and create a generation that other generations have created after many generations."

The comments of both Murthy and Aggarwal have sparked debate on various social media platforms.

Many people believe that the time has come for India to shine and the youth of the country should make extra efforts. However, others argue that both of these founders are out of touch with the reality of life for the people of India, as they demand gruelling 70-hour work weeks.

Youth seem to share provoked and heated arguments on social media mocking the two founders.

We can witness a Positive and negative chain reaction coming from other founders and leaders like, Ashneer Grover, Founder of BharatPe, Abhishek Desai, Founder of CricHeroes and many more.

Abhishek Desai supported the argument saying, "The success of countries like Japan and Germany is undoubtedly commendable, but we must also acknowledge that their work culture may not be entirely replicable in the Indian context".

On the other side, Ashneer got offended and put his word out by saying that, "I think junta (public) got offended here because work is still being measured in 'hours' rather than 'outcome'. The other thing is people feeling as if youngster's laziness is the only thing keeping India from becoming developed.
