Born on August 25, 1994, at Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, Vinesh Phogat is the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games. She has won multiple medals at the World Wrestling Championships and is known as one of the finest women wrestlers in the country.

Her father, Rajpal Phogat, was also a freestyle wrestler. She is a cousin of wrestlers Geeta and Babita, who have won gold medals in the Commonwealth Games.
