Tata Motors has launched its entry-level hatchback Tiago and sedan Tigor with CNG fuel option and automatic transmission. Both these cars are India's first CNG cars with automatic transmission and are equipped with twin cylinder technology.
Apart from this, there is no change in the design and other features of both the cars. Tata Motors claims that both the cars will return a mileage of 28.06 km / kg in CNG mode with the automatic transmission. The petrol engine returns a mileage of 20kmpl.
The Tata Tiago rivals the likes of the Maruti Celerio, Maruti WagonR and the Citroen C3, while the Tigor rivals the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Aura.
The CNG variant of the Tiago starts at Rs 7.89 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.84 lakh
The Tiago CNG is available in four variants. Its ex-showroom price in Delhi starts at Rs 7.89 lakh, which goes up to Rs 8.89 lakh. On the other hand, the Tigor with automatic transmission is available in two variants. Its ex-showroom price in Delhi starts at Rs. 8.84 lakh and goes up to Rs. 9.54 lakh
The new colour options include Tornado Blue for the Tiago, Grassland Beige for the Tiago NRG and Meteor Bronze for the Tigor. Bookings for the AMT variants of the Tiago iCNG and Tigor iCNG are open. Interested customers can book both online and at the dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000.
Tata Motors has provided a gas leak detection safety feature in both cars. The leak detection technology automatically shifts the vehicle from CNG to petrol mode when there is a CNG leakage in the car. This technology also alerts the driver about the gas leak.
A micro-switch is also provided to keep the car switched off while refuelling. This switch turns off the ignition as soon as the fuel lid is opened. It does not allow the car to start until the fuel lid is securely closed. It also gives a 'close fuel lid' alert on the instrument cluster.
The twin-cylinder cars have more boot space than other CNG cars. With this technology, the boot space of Tiago and Tigor has increased. However, the company has not revealed anything yet regarding this. With a single cylinder, the Tiago offered a boot space of 80 litres and the Tigor 205 litres.
Tiago and Tigor iCNG: The Tiago iCNG and Tigor iCNG are powered by the same 1.2 -litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The petrol engine produces 84bhp and 113Nm of torque. It produces 72bhp and 95Nm of torque in CNG mode. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
