Pro Kabaddi League, sometimes shortened to PKL, is an Indian men's professional Kabaddi league. It was formerly known as Vivo Pro Kabbadi, for sponsorship purposes. Star Sports broadcasts it, and debuted it in 2014. After the IPL, it is the second-most watched sports league in India.
One of the best local sports in India has seen a transformation with the introduction of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), which has elevated numerous kabaddi players from all around the country to a high level of popularity. Kabaddi's growing popularity is demonstrated by the teams' demand for players in each PKL auction.
PKL Launch:
Since its launch in 2014, the Pro Kabaddi League has elevated numerous kabaddi players to a prominent position. In addition to having the chance to interact with some of the biggest stars in the sport, grassroots athletes who were formerly making their living on the mud have also gone on to establish themselves and become well-known around the nation.
For the past nine years, the Pakistan Super League (PKL) has presented us with some unforgettable stories of players who, by their perseverance and commitment, have won the hearts of kabaddi fans. With every year that goes by, the game changes, and Pro Kabaddi has had a significant impact on many players' life.
Rakesh Kumar, who was acquired by Patna Pirates for INR 12.80 lakh in the first Pro Kabaddi tournament, became the first-ever most expensive raider in the history of PKL.
Before Season 6, Iranian defender Fazel Atrachali was acquired by U Mumba, becoming the first player in PKL history to reach the one-crore milestone. Puneri Paltan signed Fazel, then the most expensive defender in PKL history, for INR 1.38 crore, breaking his own record. Being the only player in the history of the PKL to cross the crore mark three times, he was also acquired by the Gujarat Giants for INR 1.60 crore prior to Season 10.
On the other side, Puneri Paltan's acquisition of Atrachali's countryman Mohammadreza Shadloui Ciyaneh for INR 2.35 crore during the Season 10 Player Auction makes him the most expensive foreign player in PKL history.
Meanwhile, the first player in the PKL to be signed for two crores was Pawan Kumar Sehrawat. Tamil Thalaivas risked everything to secure the star raider for INR 2.26 crore. Sehrawat made history in the Season 10 Player Auction when he went to the Telugu Titans for an INR 2.605 crore price, making him the most expensive player in PKL history once more.
