"Nomination from Rae Bareli was an emotional moment for me. My mother has entrusted me with the family's karmabhoomi with great confidence and has given me the opportunity to serve her. Amethi and Rae Bareli are not separate for me, both are my family and I am happy that Kishori Lal ji, who has been serving the region for 40 years, will represent the party from Amethi.
Rahul Gandhi will contest from Rai Bareli in 2024: The Nehru-Gandhi family has decided to leave Amethi and field Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli. Priyanka Gandhi will not contest the elections this time. The Congress has fielded KL Sharma, who represented Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli, against Smriti Irani in Amethi. Friday is the last day for filing nominations for both the seats. The Congress has completed preparations for nomination and road shows on both seats in the presence of the Gandhi family.
In Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi is pitted against BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh, who had lost to Sonia Gandhi in 2019. The BJP has fielded Dinesh Pratap Singh, a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government, from Rae Bareli. In the last election against Sonia Gandhi, the vote that Dinesh Pratap Singh got was the highest among all the candidates who fought against Sonia. Like last time, Rahul Gandhi is contesting from two seats. Rahul Gandhi is also contesting from Kerala's Wayanad, from where he won in 2019 and this time too. Wayanad went to polls in the second phase on April 26.
Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers at the Congress headquarters in Delhi. The procession passed through the Feroze Gandhi Square and reached the Collectorate.
