R Ashwin breaks Sunil Narine's record Rajasthan Royals' legendary spinner R Ashwin achieved a big feat in IPL 2024 when he took 2 wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator match. With these two wickets, he completed 180 wickets in his IPL career and with this he joined the list of top-5 most successful bowlers in IPL history. In this list, he made his place by removing Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Sunil Narine. Ashwin is now followed by Yuzvendra Chahal, Piyush Chawla, Dwayne Bravo and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Ashwin has so far taken 180 wickets in 211 IPL matches at an average of 29.58 and an economy rate of 7.10. His best bowling figure is 4/34. He has surpassed KKR's Sunil Narine, who has taken 179 wickets in 176 matches with an average of 25.44 and best bowling figures of 5/19.
Yuzvendra Chahal is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history. Chahal is the only bowler in this league to have taken 200 or more wickets. Chahal has 205 wickets in 159 IPL matches. Piyush Chawla is second with 192 wickets, Dwayne Bravo is third with 183 wickets and Bhuvneshwar Kumar is fourth with 181 wickets.
Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 172 in their 20 overs. None of the RCB batsmen could score a half-century. Rajat Patidar was the top scorer with 34 runs. On the other hand, R Ashwin bowled a brilliant spell to put RCB in trouble. In his quota of 4 overs, Ashwin took the wickets of Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell to turn the match in RR's favour.
