Ingredients required for making Moong Dal Halwa

Desi ghee - half cup

Moong Dal – 1 Cup

Almonds - 1 tbsp (finely chopped)

Milk- 3 Cups

Sugar - half cup

Cashew nuts – 6-8 (finely chopped)

Almonds – 4-6 (finely chopped)

Kishmish - 15-20

Cardamom Powder - 1 tablespoon

Follow these Steps to make Moon Dal Halwa:

Step 1

Heat two tablespoons of ghee in a pan before cooking. Now fry a cup of Moong Dal on medium heat and fry till it turns golden brown. Remember that by roasting the Dal on high flame, it will be cooked from outside but will remain raw from inside. Once proper roasted, allow it to cool.

Step 2

Heat ghee in a pan and add chopped dry fruits (almonds, raisins, cashew, all nuts) to it, Roast all the dry fruits until turned golden brown.

Step 3

When the MoonDal cools down, grind it in a mixie and make powder. Add three cups of milk and bring to a boil over medium heat. While adding milk to the Dal, take special care that the temperature of milk and Dal should be equal, otherwise lumps will form in the Dal. On running continuously for 5 minutes Dal has absorbed the whole milk. Now you add a cup of water to the Dal and let it cook well so that the Dal melts and absorbs properly.

Step 4

When the Dal starts releasing ghee and starts smelling good from Moong Dal, add a cup of sugar and roast the Dal on low flame. Adding sugar to the Dal will change the colour and make the Halwa a little thinner. Once the sugar is melted, add a teaspoon of cardamom powder and finely chopped all nuts. Now, the tasty Halwai type Mong Dal Halwa is ready, you can serve it hot to your family, friends, or relative’s on any occasion.
