"For sustainable development and well-being of people, we are launching PM Surya Ghar: free electricity scheme," he said in a series of posts on X(formerly twitter). From substantial subsidies directly into people's bank accounts to heavily subsidised bank loans, the central government will ensure that there is no cost burden on people, the Prime Minister said. He said that all the stakeholders will be integrated with a national online portal which will further enhance the facilities. To popularise the scheme at the grassroots level, urban local bodies and panchayats will be encouraged to promote rooftop solar systems in their jurisdiction, Modi said.

At the same time, the scheme will generate more income, lower electricity bills and employment for the people, he said. To promote solar energy and sustainable progress, the Prime Minister urged all residential consumers, especially the youth, to strengthen the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme by applying at pmsunaryaghar.gov.in.

First, register on the website. After that, select your state. Select the electricity distribution company. After that, enter your mobile number. Be sure to include your email and phone number. Follow the directions given in the portal.
Login with your registration number and mobile number. Apply for rooftop solar according to the form.
Wait for feasibility approval from discoms. Once you get the feasibility approval, install the plant from any registered vendor in your discom.
Once the installation is complete, deposit the details of the plant and apply for a net meter.
After the installation of the net meter and inspection by the discoms, they will generate the commissioning certificate from the portal.

Once you get the commissioning report. Deposit bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will get your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.
