CSK Captain 2024: Chennai Super Kings have announced their new captain ahead of IPL 2024. The big news is that MS Dhoni has suddenly left the captaincy and now Ruturaj Gaikwad has been made the new captain of Chennai. Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title last season and has now handed over the reins of the team to Gaikwad.
On March 4, 2024, Dhoni made a post on Facebook, which went viral. Mahi had hinted at quitting the captaincy a few days ago. Dhoni wrote in the post, ‘Can't wait for the new season and the new 'role', Stay tuned!’ In this post, MS Dhoni did not reveal what his new role was going to be, due to which the suspense remained.
Under Dhoni's captaincy, Chennai has become the champion in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. In 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019, he led the team to the final. Dhoni has won the IPL title as a skipper record five times for Chennai Super Kings. He is the only captain to have played 10 IPL finals.
Ms Dhoni has captained Chennai Super Kings in 226 matches.
Ms Dhoni's win percentage was 59.38 per cent.
Under Mahi's captaincy, Chennai won 133 matches and lost 91.
Dhoni has scored 22 half-centuries as captain.
