List of ISRO Missions in 2024 with Schedule and Launch Dates

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has emerged as a force to reckon with in the last decade. It has achieved many astonishing feats that other space organizations have not even tried. The ISRO is known for carrying out challenging missions in a budget-friendly way. Therefore, experts and space enthusiasts from all across the world praise ISRO for its capabilities.

The 2024 ISRO missions are pretty ambitious and they will establish India as a major contender in the modern space race. What are those missions and when ISRO is going to launch them? Let’s find out.

PSLV-C58 with XPoSat

ISRO’s ambitious 2024 space journey began with the PSLV-C58 launch with XPoSat. The Indian space agency successfully launched the PSLV-C58 rocket on January 1, 2024. This rocket carried the XPoSat into a low-inclination orbit. Thus, ISRO has successfully completed its 60th mission.

Being the country’s first polarimetry mission, the XSPECT payload is going to carry out studies of cosmic X-ray sources. The launched payload is going to measure spectroscopic emissions and polarization from cosmic bodies.

Mission budget: Approximately 250 crore rupees

Launch Date: 1st January, 2024

NISAR

NISAR stands for the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar and both NASA and ISRO space agencies are collaborating for this project. This mission will deliver a dual-frequency synthetic aperture radar satellite into the orbit.

This radar is going to map the entire globe within 12 12-day period and collect information regarding ice mass, our planet’s ecosystems, sea level rise, vegetation biomass, natural hazards, groundwater, tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, volcanos, and more. It is expected to launch in January as per the 2024 ISRO missions schedule

Mission Budget: 12,505 crore rupees

Launch Date: January 2024

INSAT-3DS

Being an important part of the Indian National Satellite System (INSAT), the INSAT 3DS is also expected to launch in the first quarter of 2024. This satellite has been designed to carefully observe and enhance the understanding of weather systems. It will help in improving India’s disaster management efforts. Moreover, the INSAT-3DS satellite will provide reliable data for meteorological forecasts. The GSLV-MK-II rocket will launch this satellite into the Earth’s orbit.

Mission Budget: Not Available

Launch Date: January 2024

Gaganyaan 1

The Indian Space Research Organization has successfully launched many rockets and satellites through those rockets. This organization has never launched a human spaceflight and Gaganyaan 1 is going to be the first of its kind mission for ISRO.

It is a collaborative mission between Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and ISRO. Both Indian agencies will ensure that the first Indian Hyman Spaceflight is successful. Gaganyaan will be the first Indian spaceflight and it will initiate India’s efforts to launch manned space missions as often as possible. It is probably the most exciting mission for Indians on the 2024 ISRO missions list

Mission Budget: Approximately 9,023 crore rupees

Launch Date: February 2024

Mangalyaan 2

The Indian Space Research Organization shocked the entire world by successfully launching India’s first Mars mission in an extremely budget-friendly way. Mangalyaan 1 was one of the top 3 ISRO mission by 2023. Now, ISRO is planning to launch the Mangalyaan 2 mission. It is commonly known as the Mars Orbiter Mission 2 (MOM 2).

The goal of the MOM 2 mission is to conduct research on Martian atmosphere, surface, and climate conditions. The Mars orbiter will be equipped with a cutting-edge hyperspectral camera, radar, and magnetometer to conduct the required research. This mission’s success will significantly expand the country’s abilities in planetary exploration. Therefore, many experts keep Mangalyaan 2 at the top of the ISRO upcoming missions list

Mission Budget: Approximately 7.4 crore rupees

Launch Date: 2024 (exact date is not confirmed)

X-ray Polarimeter Satellite

Built to study cosmic X-rays’ polarisation, the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite launch is another major ISRO mission. This satellite will collect data and help Indian scientists conduct their studies of cosmic X-rays for at least five years.

This satellite is going to monitor black hole X-ray binaries, pulsars, non-thermal supernova remnants, and active galactic nuclei. It will play a crucial role in improving the understanding of celestial objects’ physics.

Mission Budget: 250 crore rupees

Launch Date: Not Available

Shukrayaan-1

Venus is called Shukra in Sanskrit and Hindi. It is India’s Venus Orbiter Mission that will carry the Shukrayaan-1 spacecraft to the orbit of the Venus planet. This orbiter will orbit Earth’s neighbouring planet for five years. The ISRO upcoming launch schedule indicates that the Shukrayaan mission may launch in December 2024 or early 2025.

Mission Budget: 500 crore to 1000 crore rupees

Launch Date: December 2024 or Early 2025
