IPL 2024, KKR vs SRH, Kolkata Knight Riders have started their IPL 2024 campaign with a win. Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 runs at the Eden Gardens. In this high-scoring match, the batsmen from both the teams hit boundaries. Russell first scored 64 runs with the help of 7 sixes and then took 2 wickets, while Harshit Rana defended 13 runs in the last over to win the team.

Russell, who came to the crease in the 13th over, took one by one to target every Hyderabad bowler. On the other hand, Phil Salt completed his half-century in 39 balls. After that, the entire game was in the name of Andre Russell. He first created an atmosphere by hitting 3 sixes in leg-spinner Mayank Markande's over and then did the same to the rest of the bowlers. Russell scored the fastest half-century of this season in just 20 balls. With the help of 7 sixes, Russell scored 64 runs in 26 balls. He also got a good contribution from Rinku Singh (23).

SRH off to a flying start

Kolkata had set a target of 209 runs for Hyderabad to chase. Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Upadhyay scored 60 runs in the powerplay. But after both of them got out, the pace of the runs stopped and the wickets also started falling. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Suyash Sharma kept the Hyderabad batsmen in check. When the wicket of Abdul Samad fell on the fifth ball of the 17th over, the score was only 145 runs.

Klassen's Explosive batting

Hyderabad needed 60 runs in the last 3 overs and that's where Heinrich Klaasen turned the match. In the 18th over, Klaasen smashed 2 sixes against Varun Chakravarthy, while Shahbaz Ahmed also hit a six. Even after that, 39 runs were needed in 2 overs and in front was Mitchell Starc, for whom KKR had spent Rs 24.5 crore. Klaasen smashed 3 sixes off Starc, while Shahbaz hit a six this time as well.

Harshit Rana Turned the Match in Final Over

Now 13 runs were needed in the last over and on the very first ball of Harshit Rana, Klaasen hit a brilliant six. In such a situation, only 7 runs were needed in 5 balls and here Harshit turned the match. He gave away just 2 runs in the next 4 balls, picking up the wickets of Shahbaz and Klaasen. Hyderabad needed 5 runs off the last ball but could not score a single run and thus Kolkata registered a memorable win.
