The first phase of polling will be held on April 19 and the results will be declared on June 4. According to the Election Commission, the second phase of polling will be held on April 26. Similarly, the third phase of polling will be held on May 7, fourth phase on May 13, fifth phase on May 20, sixth phase on May 25 and seventh phase on June 1.

97 Crore People are Eligible to Vote

The term of the current Lok Sabha ends on June 16 and the new Lok Sabha has to be constituted before that. At the same time, the term of the assemblies in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha is ending on different dates in June. In such a situation, the Election Commission is going to announce the election dates today. With its announcement, the code of conduct will also be imposed in the country. Around 97 crore people are eligible to vote at over 12 lakh polling stations in the upcoming elections.

Last election was announced on March 10

Last time, the Lok Sabha election dates were announced on March 10 and polling was held in seven phases from April 11, and the counting of votes was held on May 23. In the last Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won 303 seats and the Congress 52. He could not muster enough numbers to get the post of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. But the upcoming parliamentary elections are being seen as a do-or-die battle for the opposition alliance 'India' (Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance).
