Dhruv has been selected in the Indian team for the first two matches of the five-Test series against England. Till few months ago, he would not have thought that he would enter the Indian team in this way. It's a dream come true for the 22-year-old.
Uttar Pradesh wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel will soon be seen flying to Hyderabad. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja are some of the big names in Indian cricket who will be travelling with the team. That flight will take him closer to his dreams, which he had thought about since childhood.
In fact, Dhruv has been included in the Indian team for the first two matches of the five-Test series against England. It's a dream come true for the 22-year-old cricketer.
Dhruv likes cricket very much and left swimming and stepped his feet in cricket. His father soon realised that his son was passionate about cricket and allowed Dhruv to pursue his dream. When Dhruv wanted a bat, his father borrowed Rs 800 from his friends to get one.
In an interview, he stated, “I told my father that the kit would cost around Rs 8,000 and he was shocked to hear the price and asked me to stop playing cricket. It was not uncommon for a father who retired from the Army to buy a cricket kit without thinking about it. He wanted his son to become an army officer. That's why I didn't buy the kit.
Then, Dhruv said that if he does not get a cricket kit, he will leave the house. After that, his mother sold the gold chain and gave the cricket kit to Jurel.
Seeing Dhruv's interest and talent in cricket, his father also started supporting him. Dhruv has played under-14 and under-16 age-group cricket for Uttar Pradesh. He was then selected for India's U-19 team for the World Cup in 2020. From here, he never looked back. He also became the vice-captain of the country's U-19 team in 2020. His team lost to Bangladesh in the final of the U-19 World Cup, but Dhruv won the U-19 Asia Cup under his captaincy.
Dhruv made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh against Vidarbha in 2022 and has so far played 15 first-class matches, scoring 790 runs, including a century and five fifties. His highest score is 249. Dhruv has also played 10 List-A and 23 T20 matches. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Rs 20 lakh in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
However, he got his first chance in IPL 2023. In the IPL, Dhruv made his debut as an impact player against Punjab Kings in Guwahati on 5 April 2023. He scored 32 off 15 balls in the first innings. It has been a matter of debate ever since. Dhruv has played 13 IPL matches so far, scoring 152 runs at a strike rate of 172.72 and Rajasthan retained the explosive wicketkeeper-batsman for IPL 2024.
Dhruv's good performances in first-class cricket also earned him a place in the India A team. He was part of the India A team that toured South Africa recently. Dhruv scored 69 runs in one of the four-day matches and also took three catches. After his performance, the selectors decided to give this young player a chance in the home series against England. Although he might not be the team management's first choice as wicketkeeper for the first two Tests, the experience of being in the senior Indian men's dressing room will be crucial for the Agra-born right-hander.

In modern time, most of the youngster wants to be like M.S. Dhoni. Similarly, Dhruv also wants to captain the Indian team like Dhoni. He has a knack of trapping opposition batsmen with patience and finesse behind the wickets. Besides, he considers AB de Villiers as his idol in batting. Virat Kohli is a fitness freak when it comes to fitness.
A die-hard fan of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Dhruv hopes to follow in the footsteps of his idol and become a successful cricketer like the Ranchi stalwart.
After showing his talent in the IPL in 2023, now he has a chance to show his talent to the country as well.
His family got emotional after Dhruv got selected for first 2 test matches in Indian team. "My friends told me that I have been selected for the Indian team. When I told to family that I have been selected, they asked me which Indian team have I been selected for? I told 'Rohit bhaiya, Virat bhaiya ki Indian team'. Hearing this, my family went into shock and got emotional.'
