Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament. This is the last budget of the Modi government's second term. This is the sixth budget presented by the Finance Minister. Sitharaman is the second Finance Minister after Morarji Desai to have presented the Budget six times.
At the beginning of the budget speech, the Finance Minister listed the achievements of the Modi government and said that our government believes in empowering the poor. Poverty has been reduced through government schemes.
The Finance Minister in her Budget speech said that there is no change in the tax slab this time. The income tax limit will remain 7 lakh as before, which will not benefit the employed people.
Through rooftop solar, one crore families will get up to 300 units of free electricity every month. The government has been running the 'National Rooftop Scheme' since 2014. At the same time, PM Modi has recently announced the 'Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana'. In this, rooftop solar will be installed in 1 crore houses.
Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana will be promoted. The productivity of aquaculture will be increased from 3 tonnes to 5 tonnes. Exports will be increased to Rs 1 lakh crore. 55 lakh new jobs will be created under the scheme.
The Finance Minister informed that under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, new airports will be built and the existing airports will be expanded. The scheme was launched in 2016. It aims to make flight services accessible to common citizens by focusing on development of infrastructure and air connectivity.
Construction of 3 crore houses under PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) has been completed. Another 2 crore houses will be built in the next 5 years. Along with this, the Finance Minister said that the government will start a housing scheme for the eligible middle class to buy or build their own house.
In the budget, a target has been set to make 3 crore women lakhpati under the Lakhpati Didi scheme. Earlier, the target was Rs 2 crore. So far, one crore women have been made lakhpatis under this scheme. Under the scheme, small loans are given to women for entrepreneurship, industry, education or other needs.
In regards, free vaccine will be given to girls of 9-14 years to prevent cervical cancer. After breast cancer, cervical cancer is the most common cancer among women in India. Every year more than 1 lakh 25 thousand patients of cervical cancer are found.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 1 lakh crore funds for long-term financing of technological research. The loan will be for 50 years. The Finance Minister said that the purpose of this fund is to keep in mind the tech-savvy youth of India.
India's defence budget now stands at Rs. 6.20 lakh crore. Last year, the defence budget was Rs 5.93 lakh crore. That is, there has been an increase of 3.4% in the defence budget this time.
