The central government had decided to redevelop the Gomti Nagar railway station to reduce load from the Charbagh station. It was planned to be developed as a world-class station, capable of entertaining a large number of passengers travelling to the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
It will be the main destination for several important trains taking thousands of passengers to different parts of the country. The newly redeveloped railway station will provide direct trains to cities, such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Kanpur, and other Indian cities. Indian Railway is equipping this railway station with world-class facilities to meet modern passengers’ expectations.
The Gomti Nagar railway station redevelopment work is going on in full swing. Phase 1 of the redevelopment work has almost been completed and the railway station is going to get into service in January 2024.
The redevelopment work includes the construction of an elevated road, a southern building, retail blocks, commercial blocks, and an air concourse. All those facilities will provide this new railway station airport-like appeal and visitors would love to halt at Gomti Nagar instead of Char Bagh.
The government had finalized a 350-crore rupee budget to redevelop the Gomti Nagar railway station. The rejuvenation work is going to be completed in two phases. The first phase is the mandatory station development, which has almost completed. The second phase is the development of commercial places.
The first phase is going to cost around 190 crore rupees and the development work will cost around 170 crore rupees in the second phase.
Vikram Kumar, the ADRM Operation, has shared that about 75% of redevelopment work has been completed for the mandatory railway station. He has assured that the first phase of development will be completed by January 2024 and the station will be open for passengers.
He has also informed the media that the concourse will get active by December month this year. The Indian Railway is also redeveloping Lucknow Junction and Char Bagh stations. All these stations will be connected and reduce load from the main station. Thus, passengers will enjoy smoother travel during the festive season and reach their destinations comfortably.

The new station layout reveals construction plans targeted for smoother circulation of passengers. Passengers arriving at the Gomti Nagar station will use the ground floor and departing passengers will go from the first floor.
The Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the redevelopment work in January 2022. The first phase of transformation work has almost finished and it is ready for inauguration.
