BCCI central contracts: The BCCI has announced the Annual Player Contracts. The list, released for the 2023-24 season, does not feature Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. Both the players have not played any domestic cricket. This had irked the board. Its effect was seen in the contract list. "Iyer and Ishan haven't been given annual contracts. Uttar Pradesh's left-handed batsman Rinku Singh has got a place in Grade-C. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah are the players in A + category.
The BCCI has given contracts to 30 players this year. It is from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024. The Board has issued a new tradition this time. He has also been given a separate fast bowling contract. The list includes Akash Deep, Vijay Kumar Vaishya, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa.
Rahul, Shubman Gill and Siraj have been promoted to Grade A. While Rishabh Pant, who has not played for more than a year due to a road accident, has got a place in Grade B. Axar Patel was in Grade A last season. This time they were placed in Grade B. Hardik, Ashwin and Siraj have been retained in Grade A. Rohit, Kohli, Bumrah and Jadeja were earlier in Grade A +. Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Umesh Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Deepak Hooda and Yuzvendra Chahal also failed to be in the list. Kuldeep Yadav has been promoted from C to B grade. Yashasvi Jaiswal has got the contract for the first time and he has directly joined the B grade. Suryakumar is the only player in the B category who was in the same grade last time as well.
Grade A +: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.
Grade A: Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.
Grade B: Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Grade C: Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar.
Players in Grade A + get Rs seven crore annually. Grade A gets Rs five crore and Grade B gets Rs three crore. Players included in the lowest C grade are given one crore rupees each.
Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, who recently made their Test debuts, are likely to get central contracts. Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan have played 2 Test matches so far. If they participate in the Dharamsala Test match, i.e. the 5th Test of the ongoing series against England, they will be included in Grade C.
As per the BCCI's rules, players who play at least 3 Tests or 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is can be given a place in the contract.
The selection committee has given fast bowling contracts to Akash Deep, Vijay Kumar, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidvat Kaverappa. It is not part of the central contract. This is an additional contract.
