New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and invited India to bat first. Batting first, Afghanistan set a target of 160 runs. The team lost their first wicket on the very first ball and then the wickets started to fall. Afghanistan's bowlers broke New Zealand's back by taking 4 wickets in the power-play.

Rashid Khan and Fazal Haq Farooqui were unplayable

Afghanistan created history by defeating New Zealand for the first time on Saturday, June 8. On the other hand, New Zealand had a poor start in the first match of the T20 World Cup. They lost to Afghanistan by 84 runs. In the second innings, Afghanistan's bowlers wreaked havoc on the New Zealand batsmen during the chase. It was started by Fazal Haq Farooqui.

He bowled a brilliant in-swinger on the very first ball of the second innings and got Finn Allen going. He then dismissed wicketkeeper-batsman Devon Conway. New Zealand were still trying to recover from this when Rashid Khan sent captain Kane Williamson to the pavilion. Together, these two bowlers created such havoc with their ball that a strong team like New Zealand was all out for just 75 runs. A total of 8 wickets were taken by both bowlers in this match.

Rashid Khan missed Hat-Tricks

After Fazal Haq Farooqui's early blows, captain Rashid Khan took over. New Zealand's batsmen could not understand his ball. In the 9th over of the innings, he became so dangerous that he took two consecutive wickets one after the other to make a hat-trick opportunity. However, Mitchell Santner thwarted his plans and missed out on a hat-trick.

Mohammad Nabi took two wickets
